Works of art by around 1,000 artists in a hundred years
This November, the unique Griffelkunst-Vereinigung e. V. is celebrating its 100th anniversary. And Witten is joining in the celebrations! On Friday, November 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the WittenLab, Witten/Herdecke University, Holzbau (1st floor), you can visit the selection and exhibition and experience Griffelkunst live in conversation with members and group leaders - in Witten, Prof. Dr. Renate Buschmann is in this function. As a non-profit art association, it distributes editions of original prints, photography and all forms of multiple art by renowned and up-and-coming artists twice a year.
Background information
The independent association was founded in Hamburg in 1925 by elementary school teacher Johannes Böse (1879-1955) in order to "discover, develop and spread an understanding of and love for the fine arts in our society". With an initial 79 members, he started the association in Hamburg-Langenhorn in the north of the city in order to bring original art into private spaces. To mark the occasion, new editions by fourteen artists have been created, which can be seen in exhibitions by the almost 90 Griffelkunst groups throughout Germany in the fall of 2025. Each year, the Griffelkunst member selects four hand-signed prints - Griffelkunst thus preserves the printing techniques of traditional workshops, promotes new innovative forms of multiple art and constantly expands the concept of graphic art. This year, the Griffelkunst association has worked closely with Stephan Balkenhol, Jonathan Meese, Edith Dekyndt and Emma Talbot, among others, and has once again realized a variety of editions.
