Economy of Love on the Way to a Planetary "We" With Helmy Abouleish (Egypt) - Executive Director of SEKEM and Heliopolis University

Helmy Abouleish, born in 1961 in Graz, Austria, is the CEO of the SEKEM Initiative in Egypt, which was founded in 1977 by his father Ibrahim Abouleish. The SEKEM Initiative promotes an "economy of love" in which all participants in the value chain receive a fair share by contributing to the sustainable development of people and nature through economic activities. Through fair, honest and transparent cooperation with all partners and employees, SEKEM uses part of its profits to promote the development of the community in Egypt and the surrounding villages, for example through various educational institutions, medical care or individual training opportunities. The aim is to promote equal opportunities, cultural and social development and knowledge exchange in order to raise the standard of living of everyone involved in the value chain. Inspired by SEKEM's vision of an "Economy of Love", "Economy of Love" standards were developed in Egypt in 2020 to certify sustainability and transparency. The SEKEM initiative was awarded with the "Right Livelihood Award", among others.
