What are the benefits of science communication?

• Visibility: Research gains recognition both within and outside the university.
• Trust: Clear communication makes science accessible.
• Networking: It fosters dialogue with the media, policymakers, practitioners, and potential collaboration partners.
• Funding: Science communication is also becoming increasingly important in research proposals and funding decisions.

When is a topic interesting?

In principle, any research topic can be worth communicating. New findings, current events, connections to everyday life, or surprising perspectives are particularly compelling.

Five questions can serve as a guide:

1. What’s new?
2. Who does it affect?
3. Why is it relevant now?
4. What’s special about it?
5. How can it be told in a vivid way?

We’re here to help

The Communications Department supports you in a variety of ways, including by tailoring research topics to specific audiences—whether in the form of a press release or a social media post—and by assisting with media inquiries, such as preparing for an interview.

We’re also happy to support you with events: If you’re planning a meeting, conference, or event—or would like to cover it afterward—we’ll advise you on the best communication options available—from the announcement and ongoing coverage to the follow-up. Together, we’ll determine which channels and formats are best suited for your event and your target audiences.
