General Information
Who can apply for a scholarship?
Applications are open to:
- who fulfils the admission requirements necessary for studying at the UW/H,
- are about to begin their studies at the UW/H
- or is already enrolled and has at least two semesters of the standard period of study remaining.
How much is the scholarship and how long does it run for?
Each of the scholarships to be awarded amounts to 300 euros per month. The scholarship is also paid out during the semester break and during a subject-related stay abroad.
The maximum funding period is currently two semesters, starting in the winter semester.
After expiry of a scholarship, it will be examined whether the scholarship can be extended on the basis of the performance records to be submitted. The submission of the transcripts is considered an application for an extension, unless otherwise stated.
When do I apply?
The next application period for the scholarship year 2022/23 starts on 1 July 2022.
How are the scholarship holders selected?
The scholarships are awarded according to talent and performance. In addition to previous above-average achievements and personal career, social commitment, willingness to take on responsibility or special personal circumstances resulting, for example, from the individual's social background are also to be taken into account.
How does the UW/H review my performance?
The UW/H reviews at least once a year whether the scholarship holder's talent and performance justify a continuation of the scholarship. During the funding period, the scholarship holders must submit the proof of aptitude and performance to be determined by the UW/H. They will receive a copy of this proof when they are awarded a scholarship. You will receive further information on this when you are awarded a scholarship.
I already receive a scholarship, can I still apply?
You cannot apply for a Deutschlandstipendium if you are already receiving talent- and performance-based funding that averages 30 euros or more per month and falls within the funding period of the Deutschlandstipendium.
In some exceptional cases, however, there is the possibility of double sponsorship. You can find a detailed overview here (https://www.deutschlandstipendium.de/deutschlandstipendium/shareddocs/downloads/files/dstip_uebersicht_doppelfoerderung.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=1).
Does the Deutschlandstipendium count towards BAföG?
No, the Deutschlandstipendium is not dependent on income and does not count towards BAföG. Students can take advantage of both funding opportunities at the same time without deductions.
When will I be informed?
After the application deadline, the applications are submitted to the selection committee for a decision at the next meeting.
From mid to late September, all applicants will be notified of the decision by email.
I have been rejected. Can I apply again?
Yes. You can reapply every year as long as you meet the requirements for funding under the Deutschlandstipendium.
Where can I get further information?
You can find further information and the legal basis on the website for the Deutschlandstipendium: www.deutschland-stipendium.de.
If you have any further questions, please contact Ms Knop (see contact below).
