Deutschlandstipendium

Information for applicants

Witten/Herdecke University has been awarding several Germany Scholarships to students each year since 2011. The scholarships are financed by public and private funds: Companies, private individuals and foundations provide funding of 150 euros per month and scholarship for at least one year. The federal government also contributes the same amount, so that students can expect financial support of 300 euros per month.

Become a scholarship holder

As a scholarship holder of the Deutschlandstipendium, you will not only benefit from the financial support. You also have the opportunity to establish contacts with companies, foundations or associations and their members. This allows you to build important networks for the future while you are still studying.

Things to know

Applications are open to:

  •     who fulfills the admission requirements necessary for studying at the UW/H,
  •     are about to begin their studies at the UW/H
  •     or is already enrolled and has at least two semesters of the standard period of study remaining.

Each of the scholarships to be awarded amounts to 300 euros per month. The scholarship is also paid out during the semester break and a study-related stay abroad.
The maximum duration of the scholarship is currently two semesters, starting in the winter semester.
After the expiration of a scholarship, it will be examined whether the scholarship can be extended based on the performance records to be submitted. The performance records submission is considered an application for an extension unless you tell me otherwise.

The application period for the upcoming 2023/24 scholarship year runs from July 1 to July 31, 2023.

The scholarships are awarded based on talent and performance. In addition to previous above-average performance and personal career, social commitment, willingness to take on responsibility, or special personal circumstances resulting, for example, from the individual's social background are also to be taken into account.

The UW/H will review at least once a year whether the scholarship holder's talent and performance justify a continuation of the scholarship. During the scholarship period, the scholarship holders must submit proof of aptitude and performance to be determined by the UW/H. They will receive further information on this when a scholarship is approved.

You cannot apply for a Deutschlandstipendium if you are already receiving talent- and performance-based funding that averages 30 euros or more per month and falls within the funding period of the Deutschlandstipendium.
In some exceptional cases, however, double funding is possible. You can find a detailed overview here.

No, the Deutschlandstipendium is not dependent on income and does not count towards BAföG. Students can take advantage of both funding opportunities simultaneously without deductions.

After the end of the application period, the applications will be presented to the selection committee for decision at the next meeting.
All applicants will be notified of the decision by e-mail from mid to late September.

Yes. You can reapply every year as long as you meet the requirements for funding under the Deutschlandstipendium.

Further information and the legal basis can be found on the website for the Deutschlandstipendium.
If you have any further questions, please get in touch with Ms. Knop (see contact below).
