Teaching Day
The Teaching Day takes place once a year at Witten/Herdecke University. In keynote speeches, discussions and personal exchanges, it deals with current issues in teaching and didactics, such as dealing with artificial intelligence or the question of how political universities can and should be.
The teaching awards will also be presented on the day: On the one hand, students can nominate their lecturers for the prize for innovative and outstanding teaching. On the other hand, teachers can apply for the "BNE-Impuls" teaching prize, which is awarded prospectively for ESD impulses in upcoming teaching/learning events. Further information on the prizes:
The prize is endowed with € 2,500.
Nomination requirements
The nomination is made by the students of Witten/Herdecke University. All UW/H lecturers who have offered teaching/learning courses either individually or as part of a team can be nominated.
Nomination procedure
Nominations can be submitted via a survey. As soon as this is possible again, you will find the link to the survey here.
In principle, several nominations can be submitted per person; nominations can be withdrawn without reason until the nomination deadline.
Jury
The jury consists of the deans of studies and three student representatives.
The process is supported by advisory members:
- Prof Dr Jan Ehlers (Vice President for Teaching and Learning) and
- Jan Smetana (University Didactics UW/H)
Many courses at the UW/H are related to topics of sustainable development: Whether health or economics, contributions to a socially, ecologically or economically more sustainable future can be found everywhere. In order to make these courses visible, the UW/H organises an annual teaching award for future-oriented teaching: Committed lecturers who make an explicit reference to sustainable development issues in their course can prospectively apply for the ‘BNE-Impuls’ teaching award.
The aim is to recognise teaching approaches that give students an impression of how the topic of the course is specifically linked to sustainable development, i.e. the extent to which the course refers to more than one sub-goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, for example. The ESD characteristics of courses provide orientation for didactic issues relating to education for sustainable development.
A total of three prizes will be awarded, one for each faculty and one for the WittenLab. Each award is endowed with prize money of 750 euros. You will be informed here as soon as applications are open again.
For applications and further questions, please contact the Sustainability Networking Centre, Dr Annaliesa Hilger (annaliesa.hilger@ uni-wh.de).
