As operators of the catering facilities at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H), we are very aware of our responsibility for a more sustainable future, because feeding humanity is one of the biggest challenges related to the climate crisis. Habits are difficult to change. Both at producer and consumer level.

For more than three years now, we have been working on both levels to make catering at UW/H more sustainable. This process includes, among other things, the gradual conversion of our food offer to sustainable, high-quality food. Many of our products are already organic and/or regionally and seasonally grown. By using only a few pre-processed foods, we enable short production routes and high freshness. In addition, we regularly hold events and staff training sessions on the topic of sustainability and sustainable nutrition in order to pick up the people on our campus and take them along on this common path. Of course, we also encounter (structural) challenges that come with such a change. We try very hard to master them quickly, creatively and completely. Your student ID card - the SmartCard - is also a means of payment for our printers and catering services.

There are four ways you can load money onto your SmartCards. In the white main building you can top up your SmartCard personally at the checkout or at the charger between the drinks and snack machines. You can also top up your SmartCard at the cash register in the new building or at the charger in the Café LARIX area.

If you are in a university network with your terminal device, you can view your payment transactions and create print jobs at https://print.uni-wh.de/user.

All students at Witten/Herdecke University are members of the Hochschulwerk. This means that the association belongs to the students.
Therefore, it is particularly important for us to emphasise that suggestions and constructive criticism are important participatory elements in our work, which we would like to encourage.
