Plagiarism detection software Ouriginal
Software for teachers
Teachers at UW/H can use the Ouriginal software to check student work for plagiarism. Here you will find all information on how to use the software.
1 How does Ouriginal work?
- Documents to be analyzed can be submitted via Web Inbox, email or Moodle. For this purpose, teachers receive an "analysis mail address" on request or automatically if they use the Moodle plugin.
- The software compares the work with sources from the internet, databases and student work.
- Machine learning is used to identify paraphrasing and translations from other languages.
- Ouriginal creates an analysis report including an overall score. The scanned document can be browsed through place by place via the web interface.
2 How can you use Ouriginal?
- Submission via mail and web inbox to your analysis mail address
Submission via Moodle interface
3. data protection
- Work may not be scanned without knowledge and consent!
- Students must be informed
- Students must submit their work themselves
- Students must know that they may also submit their work in the traditional way (e.g. by e-mail to the teacher). Scanning without consent is not permitted.
4 How do you access the program?
- Via Moodle
- If you use Moodle for your course and also provide the check via Moodle, you can activate the "Ouriginal plagiarism check" plugin. To do this, you need to change your role to "Trainer+Ouriginal". The plugin will then be visible at the bottom of your assignment editor. After activation, the work submitted via Moodle will be scanned automatically and the reports will be sent to you automatically. The students will also receive a message.
- Via application
- If you do not use Moodle, you must send an e-mail to jan.smetana@uni-wh.de. Jan Smetana will forward your request to Ouriginal and an analysis e-mail address will be set up for you. You will usually receive your analysis e-mail address within a maximum of two working days. Students can then send their work to this address to have their work scanned for plagiarism.
