Kulturzeit: „Art and its significance for transformative learning“

Time
Location New building, E.022a, Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße 48, 58455 Witten
Organizer WittenLab. Zukunftslabor Studium fundamentale

Are they a hobby or is there more to them? Can we learn something fundamental through them that will help us in our studies and later careers, or perhaps even in the art of living?

Elizabeth Gaufberg MD, Professor at Harvard Medical School, is a senior advisor to the Association of American Medical Colleges' national initiative "The Fundamental Role of the Arts and Humanities in Medical Education". As part of KULTURZEIT and in cooperation with the IBAM (Integriertes Begleitstudium Anthroposophische Medizin), we will talk with her about the importance of art, particularly in relation to transformative learning, i.e. the ability to shape oneself and the world in a meaningful way. Afterwards, an excursion to the Museum Folkwang is on the program.

About the event

This cultural time takes place in cooperation with IBAM (Integrated Accompanying Studies in Anthroposophic Medicine). The language of the event is English. The event is part of the visit of a working group from Harvard University at the UW/H on the topic "Students as Co-Creators of Change - Relationship oriented Education". The working group has developed an innovative model of clinical teaching in which medical students accompany patients on their path to better health. At the same time, the students make a valuable contribution to the patients and thus become co-creators of significant changes.

Other events in connection with the visit include

  • the cross-faculty welcome plenary "How to develop Change Agency? Students' Contributions to Meaningful Transformations" on Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m. and
  • the medical education symposium "The Potential of Medical Students to Contribute to Healthcare" on Wednesday, April 17, from 09:00 to 16:30.
