1st Day of Research at Helios University Hospital 2024

At the UW/H, the approach of lifelong learning is a cornerstone of its own self-image. Researchers and students regularly exchange new findings both on campus and in the teaching hospitals. This was also the case on July 1, 2024 at the first "Research Day" at Helios University Hospital Wuppertal (HUKW). This event offered participating colleagues the opportunity to find out about current research projects at the hospital and to network. The day began with a pre-meeting workshop led by Prof. Dr. Jan Ehlers, Vice President for Teaching and Learning at Witten/Herdecke University. In this workshop, he discussed the use of generative AI in research and teaching.

In the afternoon, three scientific sessions covered a wide range of topics from basic research and clinical research to the analysis of secondary data. In the lectures, scientists presented the research activities of the various clinics and specific research projects, including cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, innovative approaches to pathogen diagnostics, digital monitoring of patients in clinical trials, guideline adherence and current research projects in the field of nursing science.

In addition to these wide-ranging presentations, further research projects were presented as scientific posters and discussed intensively during the breaks. Participants also learned more about various areas and instruments with which the UW/H is strengthening clinical research at the various hospital sites. These include the Department for Research Funding, the Center for Clinical Studies (ZKS-UW/H), as well as internal research funding and the PhD program.

In addition to the clinical research colleagues at HUKW, colleagues and students from UW/H also took the opportunity to gain an overview of the research activities at Helios University Hospital. We take this as an incentive to continue this event next year.
