After a two-year "pandemic break", the Witten University Society is once again hosting its Hohensteiner Tafelrunde. It will take place for the 21st time on August 30, 2022, starting at 5:00 p.m. in the hall of the UW/H. At the traditional celebration for members, friends and supporters of the university, the focus will be on a hot topic: Prof. Dr. Uwe Schneidewind, Lord Mayor of the city of Wuppertal and former Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Witten/Herdecke University, will speak about: "Future laboratories: cities as search spaces for new futures".
In view of the current crises and dramatic social challenges, the lecture topic has gained even more topicality. Among the enormous ecological and social challenges: Climate change, mobility, digitalization, social cohesion, the war in Ukraine with its manifold consequences for our society, especially for living together in our cities, has been added. How capable of change are our cities to ensure a more sustainable and peaceful future?
Prof. Schneidewind - long-time president of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy - deals with this question from a scientific perspective and, since September 2020, also as the responsible mayor of a major German city in transition.
