Blood pressure monitoring is one of the absolute basic measures in anesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine - and yet is often taken for granted in everyday clinical practice. But how do invasive and non-invasive measurement methods really work? Why do values differ between arterial and upper arm cuffs? What influence do positioning, measurement location and technique have on the validity of the values? Does my patient really need an arterial catheter - and if so, when? Are palpation and auscultation still up to date? How can blood pressure be measured on the finger? And what good are watches and rings that claim to measure blood pressure?

The lecture will cover the physiological basics, the technical limitations of the methods and typical clinical pitfalls. It dispels widespread myths and provides concrete, practical decision-making aids - so that in future participants can treat not just any blood pressure, but the right one.
