Corporate volunteering action day
When learning becomes an experience
Our everyday lives - whether at home, at university or at work - leave their mark: emissions are produced everywhere. UW/H has therefore set itself a clear goal: From 2025, the main campus (Alfred-Herrhausen-Str. 48, 50, 50a) should be climate-neutral. To achieve this, we are focusing on avoiding, reducing and offsetting emissions. Sounds technical - and it is. But behind all this is one thing above all: people and their willingness to help shape change.
Knowing, acting, connecting
In connection with our sustainability strategy, we have therefore created a new format that combines theory with practice: the annual Corporate Volunteering Action Day. Here, employees and students work together to protect local ecosystems and learn how local initiatives can have a global impact. At the same time, the day of action creates space for new perspectives, strengthens team spirit and offers the opportunity to get to know colleagues, superiors or fellow students in a completely different way. Learning becomes an experience - with meaning, fun and added value. Win-win-win!

The first day of action will take place on November 14, 2025. Then it's time: Gloves on, spade in hand and out into the forest. Together with Bergwaldprojekt e. V., we are planting new trees in Neuenrade (Sauerland) and sending a strong signal for the protection of our forests and the promotion of biodiversity.
Why is this important? More than 600,000 hectares of forest have died in Germany since 2018. Forests, once a reliable carbon sink, have now become a source of emissions themselves. But we can do something about it. With our day of action, we are showing that even in times of crisis, we are not powerless. We can act.
The Bergwaldprojekt e. V. is providing technical and content-related support for the day. As an official UN Decade Project for the Restoration of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, it stands for transparent standards and effective nature conservation.
