Every year, 120,000 people in Germany suffer a cardiac arrest outside a hospital. Despite intensive efforts and medical advances, only around 10% of those affected survive the index event. It is not uncommon for conventional resuscitation measures to be insufficient to restore spontaneous circulation.
ECLS (Extracorporeal Life Support) has significantly pushed the boundaries of acute and intensive care medicine in recent years and sometimes enables the initial stabilization of patients in cardiac arrest. For the treatment team, the use of ECLS often means working at the limits of what is medically and ethically feasible, which requires a high level of professional expertise, rapid decision-making and interdisciplinary cooperation. The sensible use of ECLS is based on a clear indication, realistic treatment goals and continuous evaluation of the clinical course. ECLS is not an endpoint, but a temporary bridging therapy whose success depends largely on experience, structure and unclear decision-making processes.
The lecture will be given by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Christoph Adler from Leverkusen.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is required.
The digital live event is part of the AINS Colloquium and offers doctors and nurses a high-quality training event in the fields of anesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine, pain and palliative medicine.
