AINS-Colloquium: Perioperative oxygen therapy - radical, liberal, conservative - which flow is the right one?

Time
Location Online
Organizer Department of Anesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine, Kliniken Köln gGmbH

More than 310 million operations are performed worldwide every year. The liberal use of high oxygen levels in the perioperative setting is driven by the desire to prevent hypoxemia.

Based on a recommendation issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016, high oxygen concentrations are also used to reduce postoperative surgical site infections (SSIs). Concerns about the evidence for this recommendation and knowledge of the potential disadvantages of high oxygen concentrations have led to considerable debate among experts and a great deal of variability in clinical practice in perioperative medicine. In the field of emergency medicine and intensive care, hyperoxia is predominantly associated with negative outcomes.

The lecture summarizes the current study situation on perioperative oxygen therapy and briefly addresses the question of what can be learned from high altitude medicine in this regard.

The lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Marc Berger from Ludwigsburg.

Participation is free of charge. Registration is required.

The digital live event is part of the AINS Colloquium and offers doctors and nurses a high-quality training event in the fields of anesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine, pain and palliative medicine.
