There are currently around 1.8 million people living with dementia in Germany. Due to the ageing population, it is predicted that this figure could rise to around 2.3 to 2.7 million in the next 20 years. This means that the German healthcare system and society as a whole are facing massive challenges. In order to prevent people with dementia from becoming isolated, the National Dementia Strategy promotes social participation through dementia-sensitive living concepts, mobility and inclusive cultural and leisure activities. Art is increasingly playing a special role as a therapeutic and supportive medium for people with dementia:
Adapted museum tours, art therapies and digital offerings promote quality of life, activate memories and emotional resources and enable participation in social life.
