The spiritual accompaniment of seriously ill and dying people in their existential emergencies - in times of Corona once again intensified - is a largely ignored topic in the health care of patients and residents, whether outpatient or inpatient. For this reason, various sponsors (KEM, UW/H) and associations (the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP), the German Hospice and Palliative Association (DHPV), Diakonie Deutschland, the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne) and other participants have joined forces to implement the cross-association project SpECi.
The project's overall objective is the implementation of Spiritual Care in medical, nursing, and therapeutic health care to meet the spiritual needs of patients/residents and their relatives in a competent and reliable interdisciplinary manner. The aim is to achieve a more robust perception and support of such conditions and an improvement of the spiritual/existential well-being of elderly and seriously ill people and their relatives.
