Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) is a key measure for reducing postoperative wound infections. Therefore, ensuring that PAP is administered correctly is an important goal in perioperative medicine. Unfortunately, many studies show that its implementation in everyday clinical practice could be improved.
This presentation examines the current evidence and provides a concise overview of relevant national and international guideline recommendations. The focus is on practical aspects: choice of medication, optimal timing, dose adjustment for obese patients, and duration of PAP. The goal is to provide participants with concrete recommendations for daily anesthesiological practice in the operating room—evidence-based, pragmatic, and immediately applicable.
