Harvest Hour on 07.10.2024

Time
Location Bildungsacker oberhalb vom Universitätsgelände

What does the perfect lunch break look like? Exercise in the fresh air, not talk about work topics or study content for a change, and take a quick look outside the box. During the "Harvest Hour", UW/H students and staff can get active with a spade, hoe, or pruning shears in the educational field near the campus and experience the connections between agriculture, nutrition, and health while doing so. The "Harvest Hour" takes place every Monday from 12:30 to 13:30 starting in May.

Learning by experiencing and having fun while doing

Everything from cultivation tips for your vegetable garden to complex interactions between different ecosystems is included. Learning by experiencing and having fun while doing this is our motto for the "Harvest Hour".

Herbs are the starting point for "Harvest Hour": field herbs, wild herbs, and culinary and medicinal herbs planted on five levels in the system. Herbs give every meal its unmistakable and special aroma—whether added fresh or dried and cooked with them. Herbs are also a natural means of preventing and curing many diseases.

Each "Harvest Hour" will teach you about at least one crucial aromatic or medicinal herb and biotopes, insects, biodiversity, seeds, vegetable cultivation and compost. There will also be a visit to the sheep on one of the dates.

The event is part of the field trial project. The project combines organic regional agriculture with health promotion and sustainable communal catering and is practically implemented and researched here on campus.

Please bring appropriate clothing for the weather and sun protection if necessary.

Course leader

Elfi Paasch is a perennial and herb gardener and medicinal plant expert (ARVEN). Since the gardens have been created for the community in the Pferdebachtal, Elfi Paasch has mainly maintained and developed the herb spiral and offers guided tours and seminars.
