At the Hohenstein Roundtable, Prof. Dr. Mojib Latif—a meteorologist, oceanographer, and climate researcher—will give a presentation on the topic “The Challenge of Climate Change—Can We Meet the Paris Climate Goals?”

The summer of 2026 once again brought home the consequences of climate change with record-breaking figures: unprecedented air and ocean temperatures, devastating wildfires in Europe, and falling water levels with massive repercussions for shipping and, consequently, for the German economy’s transportation costs. And every hot summer, several thousand people in Germany die as a result of the heat.

Based on his research, Prof. Latif will outline whether the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement are still achievable and what developments lie ahead. He will be available to answer questions afterward.

At the “Hohenstein Round Table,” distinguished guests come together with members of the Witten University Society (WUG), students, friends, and supporters of the university to attend engaging lectures on politics, culture, business, and society. During a dinner in a festive setting, attendees will have time for engaging conversations and lively discussions.
