The foundation of western psychology in Plato & Aristotle - with Prof. Dr. Harald Schwaetzer

Time
Location Main building, 2.303, Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße 50, 58455 Witten
Organizer Institute for First-Person Research

Until around 150 years ago, western psychology was a natural part of philosophy, even at universities. Aristotle is considered the founder of psychology. With his book ‘On the Soul’, the ancient philosopher presented the first work to establish this discipline. In doing so, he incorporated key ideas from his teacher Plato. Plato and Aristotle laid the foundations for an understanding of the human being that still sets standards today and continues to offer fascinating and still unexploited potential.

Speaker Prof Dr Harald Schwaetzer will take participants on a journey of discovery to the beginnings of psychology, explore the significance of the thinking of that time for psychology today and highlight implications for the future potential of psychology as a science of the human soul.

The event will be supplemented by a subsequent seminar, which can also be attended optionally: from 19:30 - 21:00 in the same room (2.303).

The event will be held in German.
