University talk "Striving for truth"

Time
Location New building, Event hall, Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße 48, 58455 Witten
Organizer Hochschulwerk Witten/Herdecke e. V.

What does it mean to strive for truth today? How is the search for knowledge shaped in scientific, artistic and philosophical contexts? What attitudes and assumptions shape our approach to truth? Three professors from Witten/Herdecke University will discuss these and other questions with each other and with the students. The event promises to be a stimulating evening that combines thinking, feeling and research!

The guests are Prof. Dr. Petra Thürmann, Vice President for Research, University Music Director Ingo Ernst Reihl, and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Werner, Lecturer in Philosophy and Rhetoric.

The University Talks under the motto "University Talks - How we become who we are" is a student-organized series of events that invites people to talk about their personal careers and formative experiences at Witten/Herdecke University or in other educational contexts. A series that sets out in search of the cultural self-image of the UW/H and sheds light on the question of what it means to educate oneself and to shape a place of education.
This winter semester 2025/26, the talks are dedicated to the three fundamental values that shape and challenge the university's shared identity:

Encourage freedom - Strive for truth - Promote social responsibility

On three evenings, participants can explore these values, question them - and thus the university - and engage in an open dialog with exciting guests from academia, culture, politics and civil society.
