We are launching our second university-wide Research Day and are delighted that you have submitted numerous abstracts! We would like to experience an exciting day with you all on the topic of the "Third Mission of the University - with science communication as a central element for political and public outreach" and facilitate scientific exchange between the faculties and the WittenLab.
On this day, we will ask ourselves the questions:
How do people, topics and findings from the university reach into politics, business and society? How can scientists deal competently with their communicative responsibility? What decisions do they have to make? Which tools can help?
You can expect an exciting program with keynote speeches, workshops, poster sessions and pitches:

Keynote and workshops
Keynote "Third Mission" - Communication and impact of science with Dr. Katja Flieger *
The keynote provides impulses for self-reflection with regard to science communication. It explains current trends in science communication in and outside Germany.
Workshop 1: Practical aspects of science communication
Dr. Katja Flieger (Medientraining für Wissenschaftler:innen GbR)
The aim of the workshop is to outline different target groups with the participants and define key messages for these target groups. The communication of the messages is then practiced in practice. Through structured feedback, participants can identify areas in which they want to develop further.
ATTENTION! Please note that the number of participants in this workshop is limited to 16 people (first-come-first-served principle). Registration via the link below does not guarantee a fixed place. You will receive separate feedback from us regarding binding participation or a place on the waiting list.
Workshop 2: Collaborative learning - Explorative research - Activating society
Dr. Aude Bertrand-Höttcke (WittenLab. Zukunfstlabor Studium fundamentale), Prof. Dr. Werner Vogd (Faculty of Health, holder of the Chair of Sociology), Dr. Jakobidze-Gitman (WittenLab. Zukunfstlabor Studium fundamentale)
In order to shape the future and initiate transformations, universities need project and experimental spaces. At the UW/H, the WittenLab is such a cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty space for experiments in teaching, research and society. Using two practical examples, the Care Lab and the Data Lab, we will present the concept of the new teaching research labs and discuss with you: Which controversial topics and challenges can be addressed? What synergies and opportunities for cooperation arise between our faculties and with partners from urban society and regional organizations? What does it take to combine teaching and research in a transdisciplinary way?
Workshop 3: UW/H research in the (social) media: topic identification, channel selection, internal service offerings
Svenja Malessa (Communication & Marketing)
When is my topic a topic?
You start a new research project, can present interim results or take a stand on current topics - but you are unsure whether this is enough to arouse media interest? The answer is usually: YES! Svenja Malessa, press officer at UW/H and long-time journalist, explains how to get your topic talked about and what journalists are really interested in using real examples and practical tips.
Workshop 4: Scientific policy advice
Prof. Dr. Petra Thürmann (Vice President for Research, holder of the Chair of Clinical Pharmacology)
Scientific policy advice can be provided in many different ways. A prominent role is played by expert or expert councils of the respective ministries ("Die Wirtschaftsweisen"), or councils which are directly attached to the Federal Government ("Corona-Expertenrat"). How scientific is this policy advice? What requirements do you need? Which topic would you like to contribute - bring it with you!
Prof. Dr. med. Petra Thürmann was a member of the Expert Council on Health & Care for 12 years and is now a member of the Expert Council on Health and Resilience at the Chancellery.
