Following two very well-attended and inspiring events, this year will see the third university-wide Research Day. We would like to spend an exciting day with you all and facilitate scientific exchange between the faculties, departments, and WittenLab.
We are currently witnessing increasing intolerance worldwide toward the diversity of human cultures, languages, identities, worldviews, and ways of life. Beyond describing diversity, in many places we are far from actively recognizing differences and integrating them into a lived social reality. Science and the arts can build bridges and facilitate respectful dialogue. Beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines, we want to explore the topic of diversity from a wide variety of perspectives in workshops.
You can look forward to an exciting program with poster presentations, pitches, and the following workshops:
The sense or nonsense of diversity management in companies and universities
Against the backdrop of current discussions about the sense or nonsense - depending on one's position - of intentionally promoting diversity, this interactive workshop invites participants to critically examine the opportunities, challenges and limitations of diversity management in organizations. The workshop will be led by Dr. Dirk Jakobs, Vice President for Organizational Development and Diversity Management at UW/H. Previously, he was responsible for organizational and personnel development in leading positions and most recently as Global Diversity Officer for Diversity Management at the Daimler Group.
Shaping interdisciplinarity - utilizing the potential of artistic research
WittenLab invites you to a workshop in which artistic research is presented as an independent form of knowledge and can be experienced in practice - as a way of thinking and working that can open up new perspectives on scientific methods and cooperation between art and science. The starting point is the multidisciplinary work of the artist Antye Günther, who studied medicine and art. The workshop is organized by Prof. Dr. Renate Buschmann and Dr. Regine Ehleiter from the Chair of Digital Arts and Cultural Mediation. Antye Günther is a fellow of the research network MERIAN - Maastricht Experimental Research In and Through the Arts Network (NL).
Standing still - seafarers and refugees in the pandemic: experiences mediated by media as a bridge in science communication
How can scientific findings on global mobility, standstill and crisis be made understandable and tangible? The workshop presents the interdisciplinary exhibition project "Stuck in Mobility", which is based on the RECENT research project, among others, and communicates the pandemic-related experiences of seafarers and refugees using media. Maren Schuster (media scientist at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) as well as Till Neugebauer and Prof. Dr. Patrick Brzoska (Chair of Health Services Research, Faculty of Health, UW/H) will demonstrate the potential of audiovisual formats for communicating complex research topics to a broad public.
Research with social responsibility - diversity for sustainable science
Research today faces the challenge of being socially effective, ethically sound and sustainable. The eight LeNa criteria - applied ethics, transparency, inter- and transdisciplinarity, dealing with complexity, integrative approach, utilization orientation and reflection of effects - offer a practical orientation framework for sustainable, socially responsible research. Together, the participants will reflect on how the criteria are applied in everyday research and what role diverse approaches play in this - particularly with regard to social relevance, impact and participation. The workshop will be led by Dr. Sonja Knobbe, Strategic Director [tra:ce].
The research conducted at our university is just as diverse as these workshops! A day like this thrives on exciting insights into your current research projects. You will have the opportunity to present your projects and results to the entire university in order to receive feedback, find new cooperation partners, or perhaps to practice presenting in a friendly and constructive environment. As in previous Research Days, there will be prizes for the best posters and science slams!
As you can see, it's worth participating and engaging in exchange, and we look forward to your visit and your exciting topics!
A detailed program with specific times for the workshops and award ceremony, as well as a registration link, will follow shortly.
