Renowned researchers from Germany and abroad are regularly invited to the Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU) at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) to share insights into current research on family business.
On October 21, Prof. Dr. Chanchai will deliver a lecture on “Relationship Dynamics and Innovation.”
Innovation is hailed as a crucial factor for the growth, competitiveness, and strategic renewal of companies—all of which are essential to their long-term viability. In this presentation, Dr. Chanchai Tangpong will present key findings from his research on buyer-supplier relationships and innovation, which examines the effects of relationship dynamics, governance, and cross-organizational collaboration on innovation outcomes.
The findings from his research provide practitioners with insights into key considerations and aspects that should be taken into account when developing and managing business and exchange relationships with a view to innovation. In addition, he will draw conclusions from his research that may be relevant for family-owned businesses as they pursue innovation and strategic renewal. Finally, he will briefly discuss what he has learned from his intellectual and academic career.
About the Speaker
Dr. Chanchai Tangpong is a professor of management and a “University Distinguished Professor” at North Dakota State University (USA), where he teaches courses on strategy and management and previously served as chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. He earned his MBA and Ph.D. in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (USA) and his Bachelor of Engineering (
) from Prince of Songkla University (Thailand).
He has authored numerous papers on management and strategy topics, including the strategic value of buyer-supplier relationships, human actors in supply chains, cross-organizational innovation, governance mechanisms, the dynamics of top management, corporate turnarounds, and the temporal dimensions of strategic measures in turnaround situations and in the context of technological innovations.
His work has been published in academic journals, including *Decision Sciences*, *Long Range Planning*, *Journal of Business Research*, *Industrial Marketing Management*, the *Journal of Supply Chain Management*, the *Journal of Operations Management*, the *Journal of Product Innovation Management*, and the *Journal of Management Studies*. His research has been recognized as the best paper at conferences of the Academy of Management and the Decision Sciences Institute.
In addition, he is a co-editor and guest editor for special issues of the *Journal of Operations Management* and a co-editor of the *Research Handbook on Turnaround Strategies*.
