Insight into the studio of resident artist Claudia Robles-Angel

"Science inspires me"

This is how Claudia Robles-Angels, resident artist of the "Open Studio - more than Close Study" program, describes her work at the UW/H. She has been interested in the synergies between art and science for more than 20 years. She is currently researching this at the Faculty of Health at UW/H.

She uses biometric data that she obtains from measuring skin moisture or heartbeats. She converts these electronic impulses into sounds and images. She makes a person's inner state of mind visible and observable - for example, flaming images signal excitement and a blue stripe indicates balance.

The artist has given a small insight into her studio and her many years of work with biofeedback. In the summer semester, she will open her residency - as a forum for encounters between the university and the public.

The "Open Studio - more than Close Study" program

With the artist Oleg Yushko, the residency program for artists "Open Studio - more than Close Study" was launched at WittenLab in 2023. Initiated by the Chair of Digital Arts and Cultural Mediation and funded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, this project focuses on the connection between art and science.

Artists working in the field of technology- and time-based media are offered the opportunity to become part of the UW/H for six months. They are invited to conduct artistic research on site in Witten and to be artistically active as researchers. The focus is on transdisciplinary networking: contact with students, teaching staff and urban society.
