UW/H Takes Third Place Again in Witten
From May 1 to 21, 2026, it was time once again to hop on your bikes, start pedaling, and rack up the kilometers! In this year’s City Cycling Challenge, UW/H achieved a strong third place in the city-wide rankings. A great result that the entire university community can be proud of.
An impressive performance despite mixed weather
The numbers speak for themselves:
- 113 members of the UW/H registered for City Cycling 2026.
- 90 active cyclists took part in the event despite rainy and cool weather.
- Together, they covered 13,379 kilometers.
In doing so, the participants not only contributed to climate protection but also demonstrated plenty of endurance and team spirit.
Creativity Award for the Most Original Team Names
In addition to the kilometers logged, creativity was also rewarded this year. In the university-wide competition, the teams with the most original names were honored.
The 2026 Creativity Award goes to:
- The Gears
- Cycling Was Put into the WiGe
- DaBikeSeinIstAlles
Congratulations to the winning teams!
Prizes for the most active cyclists
The most dedicated kilometer collectors also got to enjoy some great prizes. The prize giveaway was supported by numerous partners and sponsors, including Alnatura, the Hochschulwerk, and bike shops in Witten: Metal Motion Bikes and vit:bikes. The 20 UW/H members who cycled the most kilometers received prizes such as a vegetable box from WirGemüse, bike accessories, snacks, and cold drinks.
Additional chances to win for all participants
It wasn’t just the top riders who went home with a prize: An additional 12 raffle prizes were awarded among all participants who had logged at least five kilometers. This gave all active cyclists the chance to win a prize.
Mark your calendars now: City Cycling 2027
After City Cycling is before City Cycling: We’ll be pedaling hard again next year. The campaign period for City Cycling 2027 has already been set: May 1–21, 2027.
Will we manage to surpass this year’s mileage total next year? We’re already looking forward to welcoming many participants—whether as individual cyclists or as part of a team with colleagues and fellow students.
For team spirit, climate protection, and plenty of fresh air!
