CleanUp Day 2021

RuhrCleanUp Day Witten on September 10, 2022

Dear UW/H Community,

On a Saturday morning in September, tens of thousands of people across Germany - perhaps even more - will set out to collect trash together from our rivers and their banks. It is just four years since the first RheinCleanUp, a trash collection campaign of this kind, was launched. The goal: to reduce the amount of trash that enters the world's oceans via our rivers. Every day, the Rhine carries 1 ton of trash into the North Sea, and worldwide, an incredible 4 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans via rivers every year. The fact that more and more people want to do something about it is shown by the enormous growth in actions and volunteers that the Day of Action has been able to boast since 2018. In addition to the Ruhr and Moselle, this year trash collection campaigns are also taking place on the Emscher, Lippe, Lahn and Selz rivers, but also on the Danube, Neckar, Main and Spree (and more!). In Witten, a number of groups have already joined forces to consider how best to organize our actions. The result is two starting points, four routes (1km - 5km) and a joint closing party at the Royal Lockkeeper's House with all kinds of surprises. Hereby we cordially invite you and you to be part of it. As a family or a flat-sharing community, as a club team, as a team with your colleagues - join forces and make your own day of action out of it!

It may not be your garbage, but it's your planet. You can't rid the Jangtze of trash, but you can reduce plastic waste in the Ruhr. Nobody saves our world alone and together we want to help to reduce the plastic waste in the oceans. Be part of it and join the RuhrCleanUp Day on September 10, 2022.
