"Think about it."

The new UW/H podcast is here.

One question. Scientific answers. And perhaps a new perspective by the end: The new podcast from Witten/Herdecke University has launched. The first episode focuses on attention—and why we hear things we don’t actually want to hear.

The podcast “Denk mal drüber nach.” combines scientific expertise with journalistic storytelling and tackles questions we encounter in everyday life or that are socially relevant. The conversations aim to make complex issues understandable, highlight different perspectives—and perhaps spark a thought or two that lingers in your mind a little longer.

The first episode

Why do we hear the conversation at the next table even though we’re actually trying to focus on something else? Why do we immediately notice our own name in a room full of noise? And why can we eventually tune out the hum of an air conditioner, while other sounds immediately grab our attention?

Svenja Malessa explores these questions in the first episode of “Denk mal drüber nach.” together with Prof. Dr. Jan Philipp Röer, holder of the Chair of General Psychology at the University of Münster (UW/H).

The first episode , “Why Do We Hear Things We Don’t Even Want to Hear?” is now available online.

New episodes are released once a month.

The second episode addresses a question that’s on many people’s minds right now: “Should we be afraid of AI in the workplace?” For this episode, Svenja Malessa speaks with Dr. Alina Tausch, acting professor of personnel and organizational psychology.
