Witten/Herdecke University has deleted its official X account (formerly Twitter). UW/H has not been active on the channel for more than half a year - now it has taken the next logical step to reflect current developments. Since Elon Musk took over the platform, X has changed massively; the platform's orientation can no longer be reconciled with the UW/H's core values of freedom, truth and responsibility. The algorithmic amplification of right-wing populist and anti-democratic content makes fact-based communication almost invisible and hinders a constructive culture of discussion. The UW/H resolutely opposes this by deleting the channel.

Alternatives to X and the social media platforms on which the university is currently active will continue to be critically evaluated and monitored in order to draw any necessary conclusions.
