Trigger warning: physical and psychological violence, traumatic experiences, genital injuries.
FGM/C ("Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting") refers to the partial or complete injury or removal of external female genitalia, often without medical reason and with severe physical and psychological consequences. Millions of people are affected worldwide, including many in Germany.
This lecture with Dr. med. Christoph Zerm would like to bring the topic to society and inform and sensitize them about it.
The following main topics will be covered:
- medical consequences of FGM/C
- socio-cultural backgrounds
- transculturally sensitive interaction with those affected
- possibilities of reconstructive therapy
No previous knowledge is necessary for the lecture. All interested parties are invited to this evening to inform themselves about this important topic and to put an end to the taboo of female genital mutilation.
The lecture is an event organized by the Global Health Initiative led by UW/H students.
