From a Culture of Productivity to a Culture of Encounter
Werner Körsgen lives at the Christopherus Hof and is familiar with the area surrounding the university’s field and the historical structures there that have evolved over time. In his work on site, he repeatedly reflects on the guiding principle “From a Culture of Yield to a Culture of Encounter.”
On July 7, participants in “Feldzeit” will have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Werner Körsgen and gain vivid insights into the structures and developments that shape—and have historically shaped—the area surrounding the University of Münster (UW/H).
This event is part of the “Feldzeit” series. During this outdoor lunch break, participants can experience firsthand the connections between agriculture, intact ecosystems, and their lunch. Staff and students are invited on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to explore the community gardens and the field trial plot.
Each session has a specific theme and offers participants interesting insights into the cultivation, care, and processing of vegetables and herbs. Depending on where a helping hand is needed at the time, interested participants will get actively involved on the grounds, in the herb spiral, and in the vegetable garden. True to the motto “Experience it, help shape it,” participants have the opportunity to experience the 2026 growing season from seed to harvest and to actively help shape the grounds. Everything is covered, from gardening tips for your own vegetable garden to the complex interactions between different ecosystems. The goal is to learn through experience and have fun while doing it.
“Feldzeit” is an initiative of the “Feldversuch” project. This project combines bio-regional agriculture with health promotion and sustainable community catering, and it is being practically implemented and researched here on campus.
Participants should be sure to bring weather-appropriate clothing and, if necessary, sunscreen.
Meeting point: The “Feldversuch” field in the community gardens. At the end of Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße, follow the pedestrian path toward Christopherus-Hof; the field is on the left there.
Participation is free of charge.
