Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy to Promote Emotional Well-Being Following a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection

Time
Location Hybrid Event: Online via Zoom or Witten/Herdecke University, Wooden building, E.021, Alfred-Herrhausen-Str. 48, 58455 Witten
Organizer IGVF Witten/Herdecke University

In this lecture, Dr Christina M. Luberto, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, explains how mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) can promote the emotional wellbeing of patients affected by spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). In spontaneous coronary artery dissection, a tear occurs in the wall of the coronary artery without any external injury. This allows blood to accumulate between the layers of the vessel wall, causing the blood vessel to narrow or become blocked from the inside. The heart muscle is then no longer supplied with sufficient oxygen, which can lead to a heart attack.

In her specialist presentation, Dr Luberto will also present the initial findings of a pilot study, as well as insights gained from implementing the programme into the clinical care of women with heart disease.

The hybrid event will be held in English. Participation is possible both in person and online via Zoom.
