These days we are receiving terrible news from Ukraine. What was considered unthinkable for many of us, a war in Europe, has been a horrific reality for a few weeks now and strikes at the very heart of our self-image of freedom and peaceful conflict. Our special sympathy goes out to the relatives of our Ukrainian staff and students, as well as to the entire Ukrainian population, who are suffering from the bombardments of the Russian armed forces. Many of them have already lost everything and are fleeing their homes. They need medical help, clothes and a place where they are safe.
The outpouring of support is huge, and the desire for assistance has also led to some concrete offers of help and initiatives within the university community. You can find all the information about what activities there are here at UW/H and how you can get involved on the website that has been set up: www.uni-wh.de/ukrainehilfe.
For example, the specially founded initiative "United Students for Ukraine" coordinates medical donations in kind, which are brought to Ukraine in cooperation with aid organizations. Monetary donations are also collected to finance further medical materials and to support aid programs for refugees in Germany. If you would also like to help, you are welcome to get involved here!
If you are planning a campaign yourself or have important information that should be mentioned there, please get in touch via email at ukrainehilfe@ uni-wh.de or directly with Martina Kiphardt and her communications team.
