The Teddy Hospital opens its doors again

Dear children, dear parents,

The Teddy Hospital will open its doors again on Thursday, 20.06.2024, and this time we are once again explicitly and cordially inviting children of students and staff to join us!

We have reserved a special time slot for you from 15:30 - 16:00 in the event hall of the new university building.

If you are interested, please register your child by e-mail at teddykrankenhaus@spam protectuni-wh.de.

If you are not yet familiar with the Teddy Hospital, here is some information:

The Teddy Hospital at Witten/Herdecke University is a project organized by students in which we playfully introduce kindergarten children and their cuddly toys to a visit to a doctor's surgery or clinic.Accompanied by a student, the children go through the various wards of our hospital, such as the treatment room, the operating theater, the dentist and the pharmacy. The main difference to a normal hospital, however, is that the patients are not the children, but their cuddly toys. This allows the children to playfully experience a hospital visit and actively help with the treatment of their loved ones - without having to be ill themselves. Our aim is to take away the children's fear of a hospital visit and the associated medical examinations and procedures and to build up positive associations with them. It is also very important to us to teach the children how to brush their teeth thoroughly and the importance of a healthy diet and exercise.

What does treatment at the Teddy Hospital cost?

The Teddy Hospital is of course completely free of charge for everyone. It is financed by donations from the university society and organized and supervised by medical students on a voluntary basis.

Is there anything to consider?

Every child should bring their own cuddly toy on this day. As a few photos will be taken by the press (internal and external) during the event, we require a declaration of consent from each child with the signature of their legal guardian. If a child is not to be photographed, this is of course not a problem. In this case, we would ask parents to stick a sticker with "NO PHOTOS" clearly visible on their children's clothes.

We would also like to point out that the children will only go through the Teddy Clinic accompanied by their cuddly toy and a student, i.e. without parents.

Best regards and we look forward to your visit!
