Have you always wanted to know what the work of a climate protection manager is like? Christoph Melius, Climate Protection Manager at UW/H since December 2022, answers these and other questions. We say: Thank you for that and welcome!
1. what does a climate protection manager do? In the case of Witten/Herdecke University, a climate protection manager creates a climate protection concept in which an ACTUAL analysis is used to determine how many CO2 emissions are generated where and how these can be prevented, reduced or even compensated. In addition, projects to reduce CO2 emissions (LED conversion, installation of air-source heat pumps, expansion of photovoltaic systems) are initiated and supported.
2. where do you see the challenges of this position? The collection of data in various areas, such as mobility (commuter traffic to determine the CO2 load). Here I am counting on close and good cooperation with the university society so that we can credibly implement climate protection in this area as well.
3 What are you looking forward to? I am looking forward to a job where I can really make a difference and improve things, and thus do my part to tackle the climate crisis.
All sustainability activities at Witten/Herdecke University come together at the Sustainability Network. Its task is to coordinate corresponding projects and plans, to strengthen internal participation and to promote internal and external cooperation for the sustainable development of our university.
