Research Day of the Faculty of Health 2024

A successful day!

The Faculty of Health's annual Research Day serves as a platform for intra-university networking and communication. With three poster sessions, twelve lectures and further insights into the Faculty's diverse scientific projects, scientists at all career levels were able to gain valuable inspiration for their work. The program also offered plenty of time to get to know each other, both academically and personally, and a total of six award winners received their awards on the day.

Award ceremonies

The best scientific publication of 2023 was honored with the "Witten's First" publication award. The award went to Dr. rer. nat. Patrick Weil (Chair of Clinical Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics, Helios Klinikum Wuppertal) for his publication "Decoding testicular cell differentiation: histone variant H3.5 and implications for dedifferentiation in seminomas".

The poster prize went to Dr. Anna Hagemann for her research project "Identifying the active part of the human farnesyltransferase β-subunit for a better druggability".

The prize for the best short presentation went to Dr. Laura Susok (Clinic for Dermatology, Dortmund Hospital) with the topic "Therapy-related anogenital melanoses are very common in patients with lichen sclerosus". Dr. Susok was unfortunately unable to attend the award ceremony, but her colleague Dr. Sera Selina Weyer-Fahlbusch accepted the cheque.

Prof. Dr. Florian Kreppel, Vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of Health, presented all the prizes.

Dr. Jakob Höppner received the "Dr. med." doctorate award for his work "Comprehensive Autoantibody Profiles in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Cluster Analysis". He is currently working in Boston and was therefore unfortunately unable to accept the award in person. He presented his project in a video message.

The prize for the best Master's thesis in the Faculty of Health went to Valerie Liebers for her work "Reducing the stigmatization of schizophrenia through an intervention with a virtual avatar in virtual reality".

Prof. Dr. Florian Kreppel accepted the cheque on behalf of Dr. Höppner.

The Dentistry Doctoral Prize - donated by the Förderverein für Zahnmedizin an der UW/H e.V. - was awarded to Dr. Kevin Schudlich for his work "Evaluation of symmetry behavior of surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion with simulation-driven targeted bone weakening". Prof. Dr. Gholamreza Danesh accepted the prize on behalf of Dr. Schudlich, who was unfortunately unable to attend in person. The award ceremony was moderated by Prof. Dr. Anton Friedmann.
