StudierendenGesellschaft presents 2026 Awards
Recognition for special achievements at the UW/H
This year, the StudierendenGesellschaft has once again honoured special commitment at the UW/H. The Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award, the Jörg Högen Student Award and the Alumni Award highlight and promote outstanding projects by students, graduates, lecturers and researchers. The prizes are endowed with €1,000 each.
Proposals could be submitted from the entire university, and it was also possible for students to submit their own applications. The winners were selected by an independent jury consisting of students, an alumnus and a lecturer: Carlotta Hocke, Frederic von Bernstorff, Lisa Kaupert, Ingmar Lampson and Prof. Dr. Thomas Ostermann.
The award ceremony took place at the SG anniversary x alumni meeting.

Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award
For his commitment to the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC), Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Christian Scheffer was awarded the Peter BartholmesTeaching Award. The training model developed jointly with Harvard University combines theory and practice in clinical studies in a new way: Students accompany patients over the long term, shape their curriculum and become contributors to the healthcare system at an early stage.
The jury particularly praised Scheffer's visionary power, his openness to student perspectives and his ability to create spaces for self-efficacy. Many students describe him as someone who "has not forgotten how to dream". With projects such as the LIC, the first PJ-led hospital ward or the IBAM, he has played a decisive role in shaping educational innovation at the UW/H for many years. The LIC project now radiates far beyond Witten and is presented internationally.

Jörg Högen Student Award
Amra Novatschkova 's commitment to the Obulamu e. V. association (hospital project in Masaka/Uganda) was recognized for exceptional student commitment. Together with local doctors, midwives, nurses and companies, she is working to build a community-based hospital in Masaka/Uganda.
Through numerous internships and close personal relationships on site, she gained deep insights into healthcare in the region. The desire to make a long-term change gave rise to the vision of a hospital that is developed together with the local community and can exist independently in the long term. In addition to medical care, training and qualification programs are also to be set up. The jury was particularly impressed by her personal commitment: she financed the first plots of land for the project with private funds.

Alumni Award
With the citizens' cooperative "grüne Aue Hermaringen eG", Germany's first non-profit healthcare cooperative, Dr. med. Anne-Gritli Göbel-Wirth and Dr. med. Sebastian Göbel have created a model for GP care in rural areas that has attracted nationwide attention. In the Swabian community of Hermaringen, the couple developed a healthcare project together with the local community and citizens that combines medical care, health education and social participation.
The cooperative, which now has more than 500 members, gives doctors more time to provide needs-based and relationship-oriented care. At the same time, the members themselves take responsibility for health and prevention. The jury particularly emphasized how professional excellence and humanity are combined in the project. With their commitment, the award winners are creating a model that provides impetus for health and democratic competence far beyond Hermaringen.
