Award for outstanding commitment
Student Society presents awards
This year, the StudierendenGesellschaft once again honoured outstanding commitment: the Jörg Högen Student Award, the Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award and the Alumni Award recognize and promote special projects and achievements by students, graduates, lecturers and researchers.
University members had the opportunity to apply themselves or to nominate committed personalities from UW/H. The award winners were selected by an independent jury consisting of alumni, students and a lecturer: Maya Maihack, Nicole Steller, Frederic von Bernstorff, Julia Stronski and Prof. Dr. Jan-Christoph Heilinger.
The award ceremony took place at the alumni meeting on May 10, 2025. The winners are:
Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award 2025
The jury has decided to split the Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award 2025. In view of the exceptional quality of both applications, the prize was split equally between two projects.

Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award for Prof. Dr. Christoph Schreiber: Rethinking legal teaching with jurOhr
Prof. Dr. Christoph Schreiber received the Teaching Award for his innovative teaching project jurOhr. The project impressively demonstrates how modern teaching can inspire students: as part of their exams, they create their own podcasts on topics relating to private commercial law - practical, entertaining and easy to understand. The best contributions appear on www.jurohr.de as well as Spotify and Instagram.
jurOhr was created in 2020 during the pandemic from Prof. Schreiber's courses. Since then, it has combined legal content with social issues in a free, dialogical form. The project is motivating - so much so that a former PPÖ student decided to study law after completing her bachelor's degree.

Peter Bartholmes Teaching Award for Severin Pfeil: New approaches in ultrasound teaching
With the "Student Ultrasound Certificate" (StUZ), Severin Pfeil, medical student and lecturer at the UW/H, has initiated an outstanding teaching project. Even in the preclinical phase, more than 500 students per semester receive practical training in ultrasound diagnostics - a peer-to-peer concept that is unique in Germany.
Under Pfeil's leadership, "Sono AG" offers a comprehensive curriculum, supplemented by further training, lectures and 3D models. His teaching now attracts junior doctors from all over Germany.
As a member of the student committee of the EFSUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology) and organizer of an international summer school, Pfeil shows how student involvement can shape excellent medical training - far beyond Witten.

Jörg Högen Student Award for Jonas Redecker: recognition for exceptional commitment
Jonas Redecker's nomination for the Jörg Högen Student Award not only recognizes an impressive commitment, but above all makes an attitude visible: Jonas embodies the idea of the university as a space that can and may be shaped like no other.
His projects - from the general assembly of WiGe students, alumni days and summer parties to the first SWITCH! conference and the family business congress - demonstrate his extraordinary creative power. But Jonas' work goes deeper: he has inspired, empowered and brought students together. With an eye on sustainability, he always thought ahead - beyond the moment.
Jonas' commitment is an expression of an entrepreneurial self-image - a living "Witten spirit" that inspires others.

Alumni Award for Dr. Clarissa Soehnchen: WeMasomo - digital education for sexual self-determination in Kenya
With her start-up WeMasomo, which she founded during her doctorate, Dr. Clarissa Soehnchen has launched an innovative project. WeMasomo empowers young people between the ages of 12 and 25 in rural regions of Kenya through digital education programs to deal with sexuality in a self-determined way, to increase health awareness and to prevent violence.
The free app offers interactive learning modules and professional qualifications in the field of community health to give users not only knowledge but also perspectives. With this holistic approach, WeMasomo combines education, prevention and training - and thus has a lasting impact on social justice and health.
The commitment of Clarissa, who now lives in Nairobi, is an impressive example of how innovative ideas from Witten can have a global impact. WeMasomo is a flagship project for digital education and empowerment in Africa.
