Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) can occur in patients after a stay in the intensive care unit and lead to cognitive, psychological and physical impairments. In her presentation, Dr. K. Steinecke, Charité Berlin, describes current developments in intensive care medicine and highlights challenges for patients and their relatives. She will also explain risk factors such as delirium, sepsis and immobilization. Participants in the event will also learn about prevention and aftercare measures, including specialized PICS outpatient clinics, rehabilitation and psychosocial support. The focus here is on structured aftercare in order to minimize long-term restrictions and improve the quality of life of those affected.
