How does it feel to leave everything familiar behind - with nothing but a rucksack?
The destination? Uncertain. The main thing: safety.
A new country not only means security, but also challenges: unknown rules, new habits, language barriers - and the search for belonging.
In this interactive workshop, Jacob Raslan invites interested parties to try a change of perspective. Through a keynote speech, a virtual reality experience, a role play and an open discussion round, you can experience what fleeing can mean - physically, emotionally and socially.
The evening will be accompanied by Syrian finger food, tea and traditional desserts.
Jacob Raslan was 14 years old when the war in Syria began. He finally reached Germany at the end of 2015 after an escape accompanied by uncertainty and hardship. In his book "Aus Syrien geflüchtet" (Escaped from Syria), he tells an impressive story about his childhood, his experiences on the run and his arrival in Germany. He is now studying medicine at the University of Witten/Herdecke.
