Possible bomb disposal and evacuation on 30.07.2024

Dear members of the university,

The end of the semester has it all: there may be a world war bomb in the underground of Gleiwitzer Straße.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the Arnsberg district government will carry out an assessment on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. The results are expected to be available around midday. If the suspicion is confirmed, defusing would be prepared immediately. This would require an evacuation within a radius of 250 - 500 meters. The university buildings on Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße and Gleiwitzer Straße would be affected, as would the parking garage.

What precautions can you take in advance?

  • We ask all employees to work in mobile work on this day if possible.
  • If exams or events are scheduled for this day, please take the possible evacuation into account when planning. If possible, please postpone the date.
  • The employees of the outpatient clinics/dental clinic will be informed separately by their superiors about the measures to be taken in these areas.

What happens in the event of a possible evacuation?

  • Information will be provided by circular mail and by loudspeaker announcements in the campus and new building.
  • The regulatory authorities will also use loudspeaker vehicles to request the evacuation of a defined danger zone.
  • All persons must then leave the buildings and grounds quickly.
  • All entrance doors will be closed centrally by Building Services.
  • The building services staff will check that the offices and seminar rooms have been evacuated.
  • Once the area and buildings have been defused and cleared, you will be informed again by e-mail.

In the event of an evacuation, we ask employees to continue their work - as far as possible - in Mobile Work.

If the suspicion proves to be unfounded, we will also inform you by circular email on Tuesday.

Yours sincerely

Martin Butzlaff Jan Peter Nonnenkamp
