Reading and Conversation
The renowned political scientist, curator, poet and author Max Czollek, who holds a doctorate, will attempt to answer this question at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, 2022, at Unikat in downtown Witten. His reading from the polemics "Disintegrate yourselves!" and "Gegenwartsbewältigung," followed by an audience discussion, spans a thematically promising arc: Between the "theater of memory" - the staging of the commemoration of the Shoah -, the status quo of the German self-image and the dream of a radically diverse society.
In times of multiple crises, society and diversity suffer. For Max Czollek, concepts such as "Leitkultur" or "integration" offer no helpful answers to major challenges. In contrast, in his books "Disintegrate yourselves!" and "Gegenwartsbewältigung," he outlines a model for contemporary change: for him, disintegration, complex intersectionality, and postmigrant antifascism are pillars of a society that "protects everyone and not just some, or, to speak with Adorno, a society in which one can be different without fear." Max Czollek writes from a Jewish perspective against the integration paradigm, striking at the heart of many conflicts of recent years.
The event is supported by WUG, IBAM, the Witten City Archive and the German-Israeli Society, Witten.
