The USA stands for economic innovation, but also for political extremes. The second Trump administration is having a lasting impact on the country's image - for some entrepreneurs a source of opportunity, for others a haven of uncertainty. How can we understand this polarized and dynamic environment?
Our guest is Dr. Josef Braml, one of the most renowned experts on transatlantic economic relations in Germany. He reaches a wide audience with his contributions (e.g. Tagesschau, Deutschlandfunk, Karlsruher Mittelstandsforum) and books. His latest book "World to Come: The Return of Trump and the End of the Old Order" (with Mathew Burrows, 2025) examines how military failures, technological and climate challenges as well as economic slowdown and protectionist tendencies are fueling the dwindling global influence of the US and leading to global instability and uncertainty. He emphasizes the need to combat nationalism, slow economic growth and climate change. Braml calls for action to create a world worth living in after the end of Pax Americana.
The evening will be moderated by Hendrik Wilhelm, Professor of Strategic Organization at the Reinhard Mohn Institute for Corporate Management at UW/H.
