A common image of Africa is that development efforts south of the Sahara are doomed to failure due to corruption, lack of education and ethnic tensions. However, in recent years, countries such as Rwanda, Ghana and Burkina Faso have made significant progress, making overcoming extreme poverty seem possible in the near future. What are the strategies these countries have explored? Can they be applied to other countries as well? And how can these processes best be supported from outside?
These are some of the questions that the guests will discuss in the UW/H debate "Africa - Continent of Hope?".
Panelists:
- Prof. Dr. Magdalene Silberberger, Professor of Development Economics, UW/H
- Courage Bakasa, PhD student, UW/H
- Dr. Benedikt Erforth, German Institute for Development and Sustainability (IDOS)
- Tom Pause - E & P Africa Consulting GmbH
The event will be held in English.
