BÜRGERUNI: "Turning point"? Threatened democracies - Will authoritarian forms of rule determine the future?

Time
Location Haus Witten, Ruhrstraße 86, 58452 Witten
Organizer WittenLab. Zukunftslabor Studium fundamentale und VHS Witten, Wetter, Herdecke

There are legitimate concerns that the USA is turning from a democracy into an authoritarian regime, led by a president who wants to be re-elected against the constitution. Authoritarian forms of rule are spreading around the world and democracies are under threat. Against this background, the lecture also examines the question of whether such a development is also to be feared in Germany. Our democracy is not so much threatened by the dismantling of the state, nor by the undermining of the constitution, but - on the contrary - by increasing institutionalization and regulation. How do we achieve new democratic participation under these conditions? How do we counter political disenchantment?

Participants can discuss this with the speaker Birger P. Priddat.

Birger P. Priddat is Emeritus Professor of Economics and Philosophy at the UW/H.

The Citizens' University is a cooperation between the University of Witten/Herdecke (WittenLab. Zukunftslabor Studium fundamentale) and the VHS Witten/Wetter/Herdecke.
