There are legitimate concerns that the USA is turning from a democracy into an authoritarian regime, led by a president who wants to be re-elected against the constitution. Authoritarian forms of rule are spreading around the world and democracies are under threat. Against this background, the lecture also examines the question of whether such a development is also to be feared in Germany. Our democracy is not so much threatened by the dismantling of the state, nor by the undermining of the constitution, but - on the contrary - by increasing institutionalization and regulation. How do we achieve new democratic participation under these conditions? How do we counter political disenchantment?
Participants can discuss this with the speaker Birger P. Priddat.
